District Courts, Chandigarh

District courts, Chandigarh is the district and sessions court for the Union territory of Chandigarh,〔(Chandigarh (UT) - States/UT Governments - Directory of Important Web Links - Directories: National Portal of India )〕 in India. It is situated at sector 43 in Chandigarh, the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana. The sanctioned strength of this district and sessions court is 20 judges. As on 9 April 2011, there are 20 judges.
==History==
The court came into existence on 1 November 1966 〔(Untitled Document )〕 with the bifurcation of the states of Punjab and Haryana and creation of Chandigarh as a Union Territory. Shri Jasmer Singh was the first District & Sessions Judge, Chandigarh, and Shri Sohan Lal Verma was the Sub Judge First Class.
